STAR 21 Networks network
Since the beginning, the public STAR 21 Networks telecommunication network has been built as a universal, transparent transmission medium permitting to provide a broad palette of modern telecommunication services. It is based on state-of-the-art Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technologies.
The STAR 21 Networks services are typically provided to the customer via the STAR 21 Networks network subscriber terminal, to which different customer’s telecommunication devices are connected (private branch exchange, LAN network elements etc.). A logical data channel, which is transparent for all types of transmitted data and ensures a full and permanent transmission capacity reservation independently of other services, is always created for each service in the ATM backbone network.

The last mile implemented through the FWA serves especially for professional services and to users from the sphere of firms and organisations, where connection quality and reliability play a decisive role. A virtually complete range of telecommunication and data services can be provided through the STAR 21 Networks FWA network, which are currently used in the professional sphere, including telephone services (standard or VoIP services), data services and Internet connection, with the option of guaranteed parameters and service quality.
Other interesting possibilities of FWA use include:
- Complex services, for example the voice+Internet, data+Internet combinations – the flexibility and scalability of the FWA connection can be fully utilised in these cases; the more effective use of the network terminal point naturally has a positive effect on the service price;
- Office building connection, taking advantage of the great variability and multiple uses of the FWA connection, where a similar range of services as the optical line services can be provided, but faster and at a lower cost;
- “Last but one mile”- connection of access points of other networks providing their own terminal service - typically WiFi network HotSpots or wireless network nodes in general.
In all of the cases mentioned above, connection through the FWA brings the following advantages:
- Quality – FWA allows providing standard digital circuits with the same objectively measurable parameters, such as terrestrial metallic or optical lines;
- Reliability – typical service availability reached is above 99.9%;
- High capacity – overall bandwidth up to 30 Mb/s per terminal, termination of multiple circuits on one physical connection is fully supported;
- Fast installation – the service can be established in a few days;
- Flexibility and reserve for the future - FWA provides both “classical” interfaces and services (leased circuits), thus saving investments in the existing access devices, as well as the Ethernet environment for new applications – both of these options are available simultaneously.
