Use of the FWA in the WiFi network infrastructure
One of the important STAR 21 Networks access line applications is the backbone interconnection of access points – WiFi network HotSpots. Both wireless technologies rather complement very well than compete with each other as each of them has its own optimum place within the network hierarchy:
- FWA provides a guaranteed broadband access point (HotSpot) connection;
- WiFi serves for the easy-to-install connection of static and mobile users at bargain prices.
In this case, the FWA network represents something like “last but one mile” in the WiFi infrastructure. The WiFi network service itself is provided by the STAR 21 Networks partners.
Advantages of WiFi HotSpot connection through the FWA
- Guaranteed service quality and reliability, connection equivalent to the terrestrial digital circuit connection;
- Fully reserved and symmetrical transmission capacity;
- Possibility of flexible adjustment of parameters to immediate needs;
- Short installation time;
- Zero investment costs;
- Saving of maintenance and service-related personnel and operating expenses;
- Ethernet interface, maximum transmission rate of 30 Mb/s;
- Sufficient reserve of capacity for future;
- Possibility to use additional services on a single connection (telephone, data services).
Typical service configuration
Individual access points - HotSpots – of the WiFi network are connected to the central service provider’s (WISP, Wireless ISP) node through the transparent data circuits with the Ethernet 10/100BaseT interface provided by STAR 21 Networks. The data circuits are terminated on the HotSpot side in the STAR 21 Networks network subscriber terminal. Technical parameters, security and reliability of such installed circuit link are equivalent to the service provided on the terrestrial line.
The subscriber terminal normally has several ports and can be used for multiple services or to connect multiple customers. Individual services are absolutely independent of each other and the parameters of each of them can be set up and guaranteed separately.
STAR 21 Networks guarantees that there will be no disturbance of the existing equipment operation or damage to the external or internal areas of the building during installation. Applicable building and electric safety regulations and standards will be complied with during installation. The subscriber terminal meets the safety and health standards and is certified for operation in the Czech Republic.
